The purpose of the bone flow study is to examine the vascularity of
the femoral head to aid in the diagnosis of conditions such as
aseptic necrosis and Legg-Perthes disease. It is also useful to
differentiate between osteomyelitis and cellulitis.
The test begins with an initial injection of an Isotope. After
the injection, images are obtained for 5-10 minutes. After the
initial imaging, the patient will wait approximately 2-2 1/2 hours
before the remaining images are performed. Imaging time is
approximately 45-60 minutes.
