The Myocardial Imaging Test, also known as a Thallium, is useful for
determining a viable, perfused myocardium, evaluating myocardial
infarction, and evaluation of stress-induced ischemia. The patient
must consume no food or caffeine 8-10 hours before the test. A thallium
isotope or comparable substance (i.e. Cardiolite) will be injected
intravenously. After injection, images will be taken to evaluate the
heart while at rest. After these images are completed, the patient
will walk on a treadmill for approximately 12 minutes to stress the
heart. The patient will then be imaged a second time to evaluate the
heart during stress. The stress and rest images will be compared.
